There has never been a wall like The Berlin Wall, which separated the two Germany’s for 28 years. The construction started on August 13 1961 and was meant as another way to pressure the Allied to give up West Berlin and of course keep the citizens in East Germany. As East Germans tried to escape to West Berlin they would dig tunnels under the Wall or simply climb it. at least 125 people have died trying to escape across the Wall, as there was a shoot to kill order.

Finally on November 9 1989, exactly 20 years ago East Germany opened the gates and thousands of East Germans flooded into the West, the border patrols simply couldn’t keep them back and it was announced that East Germans could now freely travel outside the country. Many people was expecting a crack down like what had happened many years earlier in Prague, but it never came. A year later the reunification of Germany was complete.

Basically the Wall is entirely gone now, but there are a few reminders around.
