A total of 342 local people gather together for a grand collective pestling of the Nian Gao Rice Cake, a dainty snack of pastry made of the flour of glutinous rice, on a grand folk performance of Inheritance of Filial Piety and Happy Celebration of Chongyang Festival, an integral part of local China Filial Piety Festival, in Cicheng Town, Ningbo City, east China’s Zhejiang Province, Oct. 26, 2009. People throughout China celebrate the Double Ninth Festival, also known as “Chongyang Festival” or “Old Men Veneration Festival”, which is considered a traditional occasion to pay respect to the aged. The festival falls on the ninth day of the ninth month of the Chinese lunar calendar, or Oct. 26 this year.
