This young male leopard gets a prickly reception after deciding to make a meal of a porcupine. The big cat was left with sore paws and a bruised ego after losing out in a battle of wits with its spiny opponent. Using all his hunting techniques, the two-year-old male tried pouncing on the porcupine from above, prodding him and trying to roll him over, but to no avail.
After 25 minutes and several painful spines in his paws, the big cat was forced to accept defeat and retreat with his tail between his legs.
The incredible moment was captured on camera by professional wildlife photographer Shem Compion in the Mashatu Game reserve, in Botswana.

For those of you who believe sharks are extremely dangerous…
If these animals are such blood hungry predators then why are the divers able to interact with them in such a way? These divers are professionals, who are extremely comfortable in the water and train other on how to interact safely with large animals. Thank you for trying to show the ocean and it’s creatures in a new light. Sharks do not like to interact with humans nor do they hunt us intentionally. Mistakes do get made, but you are more likely to get struck by lightning then attached by a shark, yet most people are scared to go in the ocean. Before I became an avid diver I also had this thought that I may get eaten by a shark, then after spending countless hours underwater this fear diminishes. An encounter with a shark is a sacred experience. Shark populations around the world are in trouble and work done like pictured above helps raise awareness. Please do not eat shark fin soup!

I’ve never seen a hippo apart from in the water and they’re frightening enough there because of their size, imagine having to clean their teeth with hands in that big mouth… the dentist looks so relaxed too but I’m scared what if the head of the dentist will stock in that mouth.

These stunning beasts are re-enacting the ancient fighting scenes of their ancestors. The giant bull elephants have been specially trained by their skilled mahouts to fight – but the real battle is in training the elephants to know the difference between a mock clash and a real one. These are war scenes depicting the kings going to battle,’ said Ewa Narkiewicz, from Elephantstay in Thailand. Our elephants are highly trained using special techniques. The idea is to show Thai people what role the elephant played in their history.’
